The provincial government is going to create a statue commemorating the Beothuk. It’s looking for ideas and suggestions from the public as it walks the path of reconciliation.
Lisa Dempster, the minister responsible for Indigenous affairs, has called for Expressions of Interest for the design, construction, and installation of the statue.
It will reflect three Beothuk individuals based on a conception drawing. The location of the statue has yet to be determined, but it will be constructed of weather-resistant material and placed outdoors.
According to the call from government, they intend for it to be visually prominent while allowing for private contemplation.
Submissions will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2021.
