Social and political turmoil in Cuba has sparked an initiative in this province to get medication into the country.
Tamara Segura is from Cuba and has been living in Canada for 11 years.
She explains that while protests broke out in the country due to the economic situation, she describes it more as a “cry for freedom.”
She tells VOCM News the Cuban government has reacted to the protests in the “worst possible way.” In the last few days she says there have been a lot of incarcerations and repression.
She recently made a post to Facebook asking for medication to send to the country.
She calls it a “crisis,” saying that the medical system has collapsed and there are no supplies such as painkillers.
Segura has been overwhelmed and humbled by the response so far. She doesn’t know how she’s going to get the supplies into the country, but she says where there’s a will, there’s a way.
