RCMP confirm a 28-year-old Sheshatshiu man is dead following an incident in the community on Thursday.
RCMP received a report around 7:30 last night about a man in distress in the water near Mistashini. Police soon learned that a man and woman were both in the water and the woman—who was trying to help the man who had slipped beneath the surface—was rescued by police.
The man was recovered from the water and transported to hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay where he was pronounced dead.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating.
