The province’s Education Minister believes an announcement will be made on $10-a-day childcare in Newfoundland and Labrador “in the very near future.”
Earlier this year, the provincial government officially began its $25-a-day childcare program, and in April the federal government announced in its budget a plan to move to a $10-a-day model. Since then, BC and Nova Scotia have reached deals to move forward with that plan.
Minister Tom Osborne says they are getting “very close” in their talks with the federal government.
Exactly how such a program would look in this province, says Osborne, has not yet been determined. He says they are looking at what was achieved in other provinces while building a “made in Newfoundland and Labrador plan” that complies with the federal guidelines.
