A first draft of issues to be tackled by the inquiry into ground search and rescue has been posted on the inquiry’s website for all to see and pass comments on.
The discussion paper has been distributed to organizations involved with the inquiry, but commission counsel Geoff Budden also wants the public to review the document before the public phase begins. He says that will go a long way toward ensuring factual accuracy and making sure the inquiry addresses all key issues on the topic.
Budden says the time for criticism will come later.
He says the discussion paper is intended to lay out the status quo regarding current search and rescue capabilities and operations, with an opportunity to explore potential failings coming later during roundtable meetings and the public phase.
The inquiry, led by former Provincial Court Judge James Igloliorte, will examine the organization and operations of the ground search and rescue system in the province with a final report making recommendations on how to improve it
The deadline for comment on the discussion paper is August 2nd.
