Two NDP candidates in the upcoming federal election, who draw support from labour groups in the province, are marking the holiday with a Labour Day march.
St. John’s East candidate and outgoing president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour, Mary Shortall, will be joined by St. John’s South Mount Pearl candidate Ray Critch as they walk through the Pedestrian Mall in downtown St. John’s.
Shortall says Labour Day is a time to celebrate the role workers play, especially the thousands of healthcare workers, paramedics and grocery store clerks who made sacrifices throughout the pandemic.
She is inviting the public to join the walk starting at the Courthouse on Water Street at 5 p.m.
