The preliminary inquiry for nine officers charged in the death of an inmate at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary has adjourned until September 30.
That’s when presiding Provincial Court Chief Judge Pamela Goulding will rule on whether to admit potentially key medical evidence.
Dates for the remainder of the inquiry will also be set at that time.
Ten correctional officers were originally charged in the death of 33-year-old Jonathan Henoche of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, but the Crown has since withdrawn charges against one of them. The remaining nine face charges ranging from criminal negligence causing death to manslaughter and failing to provide the necessities of life.
Henoche died at HMP in November of 2019 while awaiting his own trial for first degree murder.
