The Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit of the RNC has arrested a man in the metro region on incidents involving threats of violence.
They were called in to investigate incidents of phone calls involving threats of sexual violence spanning from August 26 to September 9. Police received multiple reports of persons receiving phone calls from a male not known to them, involving harassment, obscenity and threats to cause harm to the individuals.
Officers arrested a 59-year-old man from St. John’s at a residence in the east end Thursday evening. He was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
The RNC, who continue to investigate related reports, believe more events of this nature have occurred in the community and are asking anyone who has experienced a similar event to contact them. The accused is not believed to be known to the victims, and the act is deemed to be random in motivation.
