The president of NAPE is inviting the health minister on a ride-a-long with paramedics to get a first-hand feel for what they face in a shift.
Jerry Earle extended the invitation to John Haggie during a media briefing at the Sheraton Hotel over the lunch hour Thursday.
He was joined by about 25 paramedics, each affected by what the union says are deteriorating working conditions that affect response times and their mental health.
Earle says a weekend shift downtown could help inform Haggie on the issue.
He says the minister needs to hear from the members first-hand, adding a ride-a-long during the George Street Festival would’ve been a valuable exercise.
Earle outlined a list of demands for the regional health authorities and provincial government.
A meeting is also planned for today with representatives of the health authorities.
