A flight attendant who drove from the United States to Gander for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 says she was greeted with open arms by the town.
Robin Schmidt had never been to Gander, but always wanted to go in order to give thanks for what the community did for stranded passengers in the wake of the terror attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
Schmidt likened the experience to being welcomed into her best friend’s home after being away for an extended period of time.
She had the opportunity to give a speech during a ceremony last week, in what was an incredibly emotional moment.
More than anything, Schmidt is grateful to have finally had the opportunity to thank the people of Gander for their efforts, and is honoured to have made the journey.
