Two women from Grand Bank on the Burin Peninsula are facing a slew of charges following an altercation connected to a drunk driving incident in the town.
Around 8 p.m. last Saturday, police received a call that a car had struck an oncoming vehicle while driving in the wrong lane.
Following the collision, a member of the public confronted the driver, and watched her leave the scene. A passenger in the same car then got behind the wheel and attempted to flee. Another person tried to stop her, but was almost struck by the car as it drove away.
Burin Peninsula RCMP tracked down both women and took them into custody. The vehicle was seized and impounded.
The original driver, a 25-year-old-woman, is facing charges of drunk driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, operating a vehicle without insurance or a valid registration, and having open alcohol and readily available cannabis in the vehicle.
The passenger, a 27-year-old woman, is facing charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, operating a vehicle without insurance or a valid registration, and having open alcohol and readily available cannabis in the vehicle.
Both women were released to appear in court at a later date.
