A 44-year-old man from British Columbia has been arrested in connection with a recent cocaine seizure in the capital city.
A number of searches were conducted in the St. John’s region on Thursday, September 23, resulting in the seizure of 13 kilograms of uncut cocaine, two cell phones and approximately $3,500 dollars.
Police say the estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $2.6-million.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says more than 47 kg of uncut cocaine has been seized in the capital city region in the last ten months.
He says that represents about a half million uses of cocaine. Cutting agents multiply the volume of the cocaine by two to four times.
The accused has been released from custody with charges pending. Police say illegal drugs get cut with different substances, including fentanyl. Constable Cadigan says police and health care officials encourage anyone who uses illicit drugs to plan and prepare for a possible overdose by carrying a naloxone kit.
He says a naloxone kit can save your life, or the life of someone you know.
You can get a naloxone kit by calling 811 or by visiting government’s health care website.
