New statistics recently released by LifeWorks highlight concerning patterns related to the financial well being of Canadians.
According to the survey, about one third of Canadians spend their entire paycheque in a pay period, and 26 per cent say they would not be able to come up with $2,000 to cover an unexpected expense.
Idan Shlesinger, President of Retirement and Financial Solutions at LifeWorks says there is a strong correlation between a person’s finances and their mental health.
He says situations like those being highlighted by the survey drive heavy levels of stress and put people’s financial states “in peril.”
Overall, Shlesinger says in Atlantic Canada people are faring a bit better due to not being hit as hard by the pandemic and because of an older population with more financial knowledge and confidence that are able to better respond when things go wrong.
He says that the results in Atlantic Canada are not drastically better off than the rest of the country, saying that there still are fiscal challenges.
