Residents of Arnold’s Cove and Clarenville are being asked to “Load Da Dory” this month in support of local food banks.
The month-long initiative is in support Salvation Army Food Banks in each community.
Lieutenant Maurice Collins, a Salvation Army Officer with the Clarenville Corps, says they are collecting both perishable and non-perishable items.
He says the need in Clarenville has grown over the course of the pandemic, noting that they help about 40 families every week.
According to Collins, it is important to keep local food banks in mind all year long, not just at specific times.
Poverty isn’t seasonal, he says, noting that even though the need is greater in the winter months, people are hungry year-round.
You can head to the Walmart parking lot in Clarenville, Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect non-perishable food items or cash donations.
They’ll be collecting from local schools in Clarenville on Friday morning, for collection of food that has been donated all week.
Finally, you can also donate at the Tim Horton’s parking lot, TCH Clarenville Friday afternoon from 2 p.m.. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for non-perishable food items or cash.
