Greg Parsons says he’s living proof that a career can choose the person.
Lieutenant Greg Parsons was presented with the St. John’s Rotary Club’s firefighter of the year award yesterday.
He was recognized for his professionalism and compassion, as well as matching Rotary’s motto of ‘service above self.’
For Parsons, who overcame the wrongful conviction for his own mother’s murder, firefighting proved early on to be a perfect fit.
He provided a prime example, from his first day with 24 other recruits.
He says they were all told to line up against a wall at attention, but he was singled out to show both his left and right side profiles, as police require for lineups and mugshots.
He says he immediately got the joke, adding it confirmed he was in the right place at the right time.
Parsons was referring to the process of police lineups and how they take mugshots.
Meanwhile, he continues to demand an investigation into the prosecution of his mother’s real killer, Brian Doyle.
Parsons says Doyle should’ve been convicted of first-degree murder, not second-degree, keeping him in prison.
