Today marks the final day for the public phase of the inquiry into ground search and rescue in the province.
Public hearings began September 7 in Makkovik, the home of Burton Winters, whose death in 2012 triggered the inquiry.
Hearings were also held in Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor and this week in St. John’s.
A common theme has been the gaps exposed in communications and coordination among all players.
The massive role that volunteers play in the existence of ground search and rescue has also been brought to the fore.
Today’s final session, including a concluding roundtable discussion, is set for 12:30 p.m. at MUN”s Signal Hill campus, with streaming on the inquiry website.
Commissioner James Igloliorte must submit his final report by November 30.
