Twillingate RCMP are warning of a new phishing scam.
Scammers are calling from a local number, claiming to be an Eastlink employee. They tell the victim that they are eligible for a special COVID-19 rebate after they provide their social insurance number, driver’s licence, name and date of birth.
Police have confirmed no such rebate exists, and the individual is not an employee of Eastlink. They are cautioning the public to be protective of their private information and to always verify the organization and request a call-back number.
