It was a physically and emotionally-charged morning for Mike Dawe on Sunday as he crossed the Cape to Cabot finish line in support of Young Adult Cancer Canada.
It took Dawe just under two hours to run from Cape Spear to Signal Hill, rounding out the top 100 runners.
Dawe competed in the race several times over the years , but this year was different following a cancer diagnosis in the spring.
Exercise became an outlet for him, and lead to him starting the Get YACCtive challenge, culminating with him running in the Cape to Cabot.
Dawe says while the race was intimidating, it was a great experience.
He says he doesn’t have any official totals yet, but over $10,000 has been raised through the initiative so far.
The first to cross the finish line was the male winner, Michael Kondro, coming in at a time of 1:21:27. 2019 winner, Zach Putt at 1:22:34, and Martin Njenga at 1:23:07 followed him to claim the silver and bronze for the men.
Stephanie Nevin was the female winner, coming in at 1:28:50, followed by Janelle Simmons at 1:33:20 and Allyson Stuckless at 1:37:56.
