Community leaders in St. John’s and the Metro region braved 70 foot heights on the weekend as they raised the bucket for mental health.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department’s Dollar a Day fundraiser took place outside Mile One, with a number of public figures and municipal leaders, including VOCM’s Greg Smith, spending time high up in the fire truck bucket to raise money for mental health supports.
What a fantastic day we had yesterday at the first annual raise the bucket campaign in support of mental health. We had some much love and support thrown our way from various organizations anxious to help. @CityofStJohns @adollaradayfdn @VOCMNEWS @ClarenvilleInn @PremierofNL pic.twitter.com/l5fe2jWlxy

St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says any time the city can get out to support the SJRFD, they will.
He says firefighters have to deal with so many harrowing situations and are always there when we need them, so the city wants to help give back.

“Hudson and Rex” star John Reardon took his turn in the bucket, cheered on by his canine companion. He says we have relied heavily on first responders during the pandemic.
He says it can be a thankless job, so it was a great opportunity to show appreciation for those frontline workers.
