An independent workplace review of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary will be conducted by Harriet Lewis.
Minister of Justice John Hogan made the announcement today.
The review was prompted in part by recent allegations from women who claimed they were picked up by officers on George Street and sexually assaulted.
Lewis will examine workplace culture and governance practices at the Constabulary.
The work is expected to take six months and will require the participation of both uniformed and civilian employees.
Justice Minister Hogan says the review is not an investigation, indicating that there are other independent complaint-based mechanisms in place to file complaints against police officers – as well as civilian oversight of police actions.
Review will examine workplace culture and governance practices. Anticipated to take six months and will require candid participation of uniformed officers and civilian employees of all ranks and positions. @VOCMNEWS
