New curriculum is being developed at College of the North Atlantic related to the maintenance of electric vehicles.
The provincial government is putting up $974,000 towards the initiative, and will focus on three areas of training.
The first is to train journeypersons in electric vehicle maintenance, the second is to train electricians on how to install and maintain electric vehicle charging stations on residential and commercial properties, and the third is a component for first responders so they know how to react in situations with such vehicles.
Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Bernard Davis, says having such programs and services is an important part of getting people to go electric.
He says it helps people know that they can get the required maintenance and access to charging stations.
The full program is expected to be in place by next March.
