An Independent MHA is welcoming the growing number of members who are sitting independently in the House of Assembly.
Half of the four seats in Labrador are now represented by Independent members after Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans quit the PC Party earlier this week.
Perry Trimper, who represents Lake Melville, says the latest development offers an exciting opportunity for the two districts which are interconnected in many ways.
He says they are not going down the road of trying to form a party of Independents, but the ability to work independently for the benefit of constituents is “quite refreshing.” He says freeing yourself of the “machinations and posturing” of party politics is like having a weight come off your shoulders “when you can just focus on your district and focus on the people who voted you in.”
