The Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics gets underway this morning.
Some 30 runners, many from various law enforcement agencies in the province, are taking part in today’s fundraiser.
The run will begin at 9 a.m. from RCMP Headquarters in East White Hills, and wind its way through the capital city, ending up at NLC on Kenmount Road around 2 p.m.
Sergeant Tammy Madden with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has participated in the run for the last 15 years.
She says the goal is to increase awareness and raise funds for Special Olympics athletes, a cause that is near and dear to her heart.
Runners will be collecting donations along the route and will be selling t-shirts at various locations including RCMP HQ, the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre, HMP, the Sheriff’s Office, and RNC HQ.
