Just one new confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in the province today.
The case involves a person under the age of 20 in the Eastern Health region and is a contact of a previous case.
With 32 new recoveries, there are 60 active cases in the province, including one person in hospital.
Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says they’re hoping to have an update on the availability of vaccine for children between the ages of 5 and 11 in the not too distant future.
Once Health Canada approves the use of the vaccine in that age group, and they get the green light, the province will be moving quickly to begin the immunization program.
In the meantime, booster shots are now being made available for seniors and those who are immunocompromised.
She says the Regional Health Authorities are administering a 3rd booster dose to those in long term care and other congregate living facilities, while arrangements are being made to administer booster doses to others under the National Advisory Committee on Immunization guidelines.
The IT outage is affecting a number of several of the technologies used in the provincial COVID response.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says the online self-assessment tool used to book a COVID test has been affected.
If you need to book at COVID test, you’re being asked to call 811.
It also affects the online portal giving you your COVID test results.
If your test result is positive, you will be called by Public Health within 72 hours. If you are not contacted within 72 hours you can assume your test was negative.
Online travel forms are not available at this time, but residents can still book their COVID vaccinations online.
