Government’s admission that the health care system has been struck by a cyber attack resulted in the proactive shut down of IT systems in Western Health, which until now had been relatively unaffected by the problem.
That resulted in further questions from Opposition Leader David Brazil in the House of Assembly this afternoon.
Brazil wanted to know what extra measures are being put in place to ensure that cancer care can “hit the ground running” once the attack is over.
Health Minister John Haggie says two centres in Western Health are still able to provide service, while Eastern Health which operates the provincial cancer care program, and each appointment that is delayed is being reviewed to determine whether those patients could, or should wait while they get critical services back online.
