A country-wide program is allowing Canadians to recycle more of their electronic devices than ever before.
The Electronic Products Recycling Association or EPRA and the Recycle My Electronics program ensures that safe and secure electronics recycling is accessible to all Canadians, through its community of over 2,500 drop-off locations across the country—including some in this province
Program director with the Electronic Products Recycling Association, Terry Greene, says electronics can contain harmful components like mercury and lead so they can be damaging if they end up in a landfill.
He also says they can re-use most parts.
Greene says they can extract the plastics, metals, gold, lead and copper, which can be used in the manufacturing of new products.
He says this cuts down on the need to mine new materials.
