A grade 4 student at First Baptist Academy in Mount Pearl was given the royal treatment today, after being selected as the St. John’s Regional Fire Department’s Fire Chief for a Day.
Nine-year-old Christian Coronado was picked up in a fire truck this morning, and taken to school.
Followed by meetings with St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen and Fire Chief Sherry Colford at the Central Fire Station in St. John’s, along with visits to the fire stations in Mount Pearl and Paradise.
He says it came as a great surprise to find out that he had won the poster contest.
He says his parents told him they had a surprise for him, but that it was “something you can’t touch.”
He says they spilled the beans over supper last night.
He thinks his poster “looks pretty good.”
It focuses on the sounds of fire safety and knowing what to do when you hear your smoke or carbon dioxide alarm sound.
