Government officials are hopeful that Come Home Year celebrations scheduled for this coming year will boost tourism, bring Newfoundlanders and Labradorians back home, and help new comers to consider making this province home.
Premier Andrew Furey announced over $4-million in funding through Special Assistance Fund and the Cultural Economic Development Program for the celebrations.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Steve Crocker says the plans have been in the works for some time.
The aim is two-fold according to Crocker—to boost tourism and to encourage people to visit and even settle here.
Applications for funding are open to both municipalities as well as arts, heritage and community organizations to prepare for Come Home Year activities.
Crocker says more announcements surrounding Come Home Year 2022 are expected in the coming days.
