The president of the NunatuKavut Community Council made a formal presentation to the Public Inquiry into Ground Search and Rescue in Labrador this week.
Todd Russell has a personal connection to a tragedy that unfolded on the southeast coast of Labrador in September, with the loss of Russell’s nephew Marc Russell and his crewmate Joey Jenkins, who were lost after leaving on a fishing trip.
Russell says the loss of the two young men has again raised questions and concerns about what he calls a “deeply flawed” search and rescue system. Marc’s parents, Jeanette and Dwight Russell presented to the Inquiry this week telling their story and advocating for improved search and rescue in Labrador.
Search and rescue advocate, Merv Wiseman also presented to the inquiry on behalf of the NCC.
