The province marked Remembrance Day with a solemn ceremony at the War Memorial in downtown St. John’s Thursday morning.
The poppies, wreaths, and flags were drenched in the rain. The crowd withstood the elements to pay tribute not just to those who served in the First World War, but to all those who have served and are still serving.
The rain persisted throughout the event, and even turned to some wet snow as the wreath laying ceremony began.

Representatives from the Legion, RCMP, Government, and more walked through puddles to lay their wreaths, and pay their respects.
After the formal ceremony was over, the crowd of people who had been withstanding the elements for over an hour made their way up the steps so they too could lay a wreath, a poppy, or stand silently and reflect on the sacrifices made.
