“There’s nothing more important than ensuring the safety of people, whether they work on land or water.”
That’s the message from Labrador MP Yvonne Jones, as the conversation surrounding Search and Rescue capacity in the region wages on.
Jones says the topic is at the top of her priority list.
Being that people in Labrador are so dependent on earning a life in the elements, Jones says they need to be able to do so knowing they are safe and secure.
She says that has not been the case in Labrador.
Not just with the case of Marc Russell and Joey Jenkins, but there have been many instances in the past, even within the last few years.
Jones says that when they need search and rescue the most, there’s seemingly always something that prevents access.
She says there is no need to talk about the human element of these stories. Everyone knows how terrible these situations are.
Families are the most impacted, having a loved one missing, having those in charge stand down without a rescue or recovery is very difficult.
Jones says people of Labrador deserve better.
