A Corner Brook woman has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $80,000 from the city’s minor hockey association.
47-year-old Melissa Williams had originally pleading not guilty to six fraud-related charges, including theft over $5,000, uttering forged documents and possessing or trafficking in credit card data.
But in provincial court this week, the Crown and defence agreed to withdraw four of the charges in exchange for guilty pleas to the remaining two, namely theft over $5,000 and unlawful possession, use or trafficking in credit card data.
Williams served as treasurer and administrator on the minor hockey board between 2017 and 2019. The missing money led to a big debt for the association which they’ve since managed to pay off through fundraising and help from the city.
The case will be back in court in late January when a pre-sentence report will be entered prior the sentencing hearing.
