There are some significant changes to the governance structure of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment.
Mayor Danny Breen made the announcement at Monday’s regular council meeting.
The big changes include a reduction in city representatives on the board: There will now only be one council representative and one staff representative, both of whom will be non-voting members. Ron Ellsworth will be the councilor on the board.
As well, the Chair and Vice Chair will be elected into their positions instead of being appointed by council.
Breen says the changes will improve the board’s decision-making autonomy and independence from council.
Breen, who had been serving as interim Chair for about a year, has stepped away from the position. Stephen Dinn has been elected as Chair while Greg Fleming has been elected Vice Chair. As well, the city is looking to fill three positions on the board.
