A group of protestors gathered outside the Equinor offices in downtown St. John’s Wednesday to rally against the Bay du Nord project.
The protest coincided with Equinor’s AGM being held in Norway.
Those in attendance came with a clear message: that the province and Equinor should say no to Bay du Nord.
The protestors carried signs that had messages like “leave oil in the soil,” “money for Norway, climate collapse for free,” and “NL rejects Bay du Nord” on them.
The group was loud, using megaphones to direct chants at the Equinor offices.

According to Sierra Club National Programs Director Gretchen Fitzgerald, the project “flies in the face of climate science” and is a “clear violation” of attempts to meet climate targets.
Protest organizer Kassandra Drodge says she hopes their message was heard by Equinor officials.
She says they want sustainable alternatives to oil and gas. She believes oil and gas won’t fly 10 years from now and questions why the project is being proposed.
