Healthcare systems across the country have been put under immense strain over the last two years as the global pandemic has coupled with staffing shortages and other issues. Now, several medical organizations have collaborated on solutions to help fix the problems.
The Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Nurses Association, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada have set out immediate, short and long-term plans, all of which have been presented to the federal government.
Immediate plans center around retention incentives, administrative and mental health supports, and the scaling up of collaborative care.
The medium and long-term plans focus more on virtual care, training, data collection, and a long-term pan-Canadian mental health plan.
Dr. Ann Collins, President of the Canadian Medical Association, says the implementation of their recommendations would make medical professions more desirable, which is good news for patients.
She says anything that helps support and reinforce healthcare professions will improve care for Canadians.
