An arrest has been made in connection with several recent shootings in the St. John’s area.
20-year-old Robert Belbin is so far the only person charged in connection with the incidents that the RNC says are connected.
He’s accused of aggravated assault and robbery with violence.
Belbin appeared in court Friday afternoon and was remanded in custody at least until Tuesday.
Police believe the series of violent events over the past two weeks involve a criminal network operating in the region.
They’ve connected the dots back to May 13 in Galway, where a vehicle was hit by a single gunshot.
It’s believed two masked suspects in a gold Toyota opened fire on a parked car and then fled toward the highway.
Eight days later, there was an early-morning stabbing on George Street, followed by gunfire on Goldfinch Drive in Paradise—leaving two men injured.
Then Thursday, in the early-morning hours, police responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the Thorburn Road area and were directed to the lobby of an apartment building which had been sprayed with bullets.
And finally early Friday morning, a home in the east end of the city was set on fire and shot up.
While all of the incidents are believed to be linked, police say they are particularly concerned about the “serious disregard” for innocent bystanders.
