The Single Parent Association has unveiled a brand new initiative aimed at helping single parents enter the workforce.
Margaret’s Closet, named after founder Margaret Acreman, is a career closet in St. John’s aimed at helping single parents who may not have clothes to wear to interviews or for their first few weeks on the job.
It includes things such as business casual clothes, scrubs, safety vests and work boots.
United Way NL has provided a $20,000 start-up fund for the project.
Executive Director Sonya Smith explains that they have seen a lot of demand for such a service, and says it’s something that many single parents have identified as a barrier for them.
