The preliminary inquiry is scheduled to begin this morning for Kurt Churchill, who’s charged with murder in connection with a shooting in St. John’s almost two years ago.
He’s accused of gunning down James Cody outside Churchill’s house on Craigmillar Avenue in the early-morning hours of July 5, 2020.
Aside from the second-degree murder charge, Churchill also faces five firearms charges in connection with the shooting.
Ten days have been set aside for the preliminary inquiry, after which a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence for Churchill to stand trial.
Evidence presented at the inquiry is banned from publication.
