Two businesses were targeted overnight by thieves.
Shortly after 9 p.m., police responded to Halliday’s Meat Market on Gower Street in downtown St. John’s where a man had reportedly threatened staff with a syringe while trying to rob the business.
Police say the 33-year-old man destroyed the cash register during the incident and was held down by staff until the RNC arrived.
He sustained minor injuries during the scuffle and was checked out by paramedics before being taken to the lockup.
The suspect was charged with armed robbery and uttering threats.
Just spoke w staff at Hallidays Meat Market in St John’s. A man attempted a hold up (with a syringe) last night. Clerk & workers used a chair to keep the accused at bay & held him until officers arrived. The register is damaged but staff seem to be in good spirits. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/y6ihTM9Dby
