A 40-year-old man is facing charges related to a recent series of incidents in the Carbonear area.
Harbour Grace RCMP received a report of an erratic driver in Carbonear on Tuesday evening. The described vehicle was later located on the Veteran’s Memorial Highway, but when police attempted to pull the car over, it sped away.
Police decided not to pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety.
A short while later police received a report of a man, matching the description of the driver of the car, trespassing in the backyard of a residential property. Police observed the suspect hopping over a guardrail and down over an embankment in an attempt to get away from police.
He was arrested without incident. Police say Michael Fillier showed signs of drug impairment and they are awaiting testing results to determine if drug-impaired driving charges are appropriate.
Fillier is facing charges of dangerous driving, flight from police and failing to comply with a court release order.
In the meantime, the black four-door 2015 BMW which Fillier was driving has not been located. Police are asking the public to report any sightings of the car to contact Harbour Grace RCMP at 596-5014.
