A Sheshatshiu man wants answers from Eastern Health and the province after his three-year-old grandson had a harrowing experience at the dentist.
On Saturday, Paul Rich’s grandson Owen, along with his parents, went to the Janeway’s pediatric dental clinic in St. John’s to have multiple cavities filled, eight teeth capped, and nerve treatment.
Rich says the dentist gave the child laughing gas and numbed his gums with an injection.
But he says when the dentist began to use the drill, the child’s gums began to bleed and he cried out in pain.
Rich claims the dentist continued drilling despite objections by the child and his mother, and even asked the father to help restrain the child.
What’s more, he says the dentist kept mentioning how late it was getting, and that he was rushing to finish the procedure.
Rich says the experience left the child traumatized and now terrified of a return visit.
He says he’s asked the province and Innu Nation officials to look into the incident.
VOCM News has reached out to Eastern Health for a response.
