The first NASCAR race in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Pinty’s Pro-line 225, featured two local drivers, one of them the youngest female ever to race in the Pinty’s series.
Eighteen-year-old Sara Thorne finished 17th in a field of 22 racers in her pink Bay By Bay Ltd. Hickman Autogroup Dodge.
Fellow Newfoundlander Brandon McFarlane was 16th in his Wing’n It Restaurants/ECC/Miller Lite Chevrolet.
Top spot went to Marc-Antoine Camirand in his GM Paillé Canada Chevrolet.
The race at Eastbound Park in Avondale, made possible in large part due to $600,000 in provincial government funding over a three-year period, was postponed on Saturday due to rain.
It was rescheduled for Sunday and went ahead under sunny skies.
