Premier Tony Wakeham will make what is being touted as a “significant announcement” later this afternoon.
While government has provided no official details, it has been heavily suggested that an announcement on the Bay du Nord project is imminent.
Wakeham will make the announcement at 6 p.m. VOCM News will carry it live.
Announcement Prompts Questions in Legislature

Meanwhile, the pending announcement made its way to the floor of the legislature this afternoon.
Opposition leader John Hogan cites comments made by Wakeham that he would not sign a deal on Bay du Nord unless all topsides work was done in the province.
He asked the premier if he stands by that commitment multiple times, but no direct answer was given.
Eventually, energy minister Lloyd Parrott chimed in on the line of questioning.
“I can assure you that whatever deal, and whenever it comes for Bay du Nord, it will be way better than what (the Liberals) had in 2018, and it will be way better than what they had in 2022.”
