The popular Rotary Sunshine Park on the outskirts of St. John’s has reopened after a tragic death at the site on Canada Day.
Police say a 19-year-old woman ran into trouble late Friday afternoon while swimming in Healey’s Pond, off Thorburn Road.
Numerous first responders were assisted by others at the camp but they were unable to find the woman as the search extended into Friday night.
The victim’s body was recovered early Saturday morning.
The RNC and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.
The name of the victim has not been released.
