Police on the west coast have recovered the body of a teenage boy who they say drowned in McKay’s yesterday.
Bay St. George RCMP say they received a report of a drowning shortly before 5 p.m. in a local swimming hole known as Cow Pond.
They say while swimming with a friend the teen, who is from out of province, went underneath the water and never resurfaced.
Other swimmers in the area searched the water for the teen and called for help.
Police, firefighters, and Barachois Search and Rescue attended the scene and conducted an extensive search of the area throughout the night.
Divers with the RCMP underwater Recovery Team were on the scene today to continue the search. The boy’s body was recovered early Sunday evening.
The RCMP says their thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends at this time.
