A teacher at O’Donel High School in Mount Pearl and a student at Holy Trinity High in Torbay are the two major winners of the Workplace NL Health and Safety awards.
Karen Woodland, who teaches OHS 3203, co-chairs the school’s OHS committee and is responsible for the O’Donel First Responders Team. The selection committee says Woodland promotes an attitude of safety and strives to foster the same attitude in her students.
Madison Sullivan received the Safe Student Award got her efforts to promote young worker health safety at her school. She has first aid and other certification and incorporates health and safety into all aspects of life.
Young workers (15-24) are typically at higher risk for injury on the job.
