A 31-year-old Brigus man is facing firearms charges following a recent traffic stop in Holyrood.
RCMP say Gregory Walsh was pulled over on Canada Day evening for driving a vehicle with no licence plate. Police say Walsh showed signs of drug impairment and when he resisted police attempting to arrest him for impaired driving.
Drug paraphernalia, a firearm and ammunition were removed from the vehicle. Walsh, who is prohibited by the courts from possessing firearms, was brought back to the detachment where a Drug Influence Evaluation was completed. Police are awaiting the results to determine if drug-impaired driving charges are appropriate.
In the meantime, Walsh has been charged with careless transportation of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited and resisting arrest. His vehicle was seized and impounded and his licence was suspended.
He was released to appear in court August 29.
