Rogers wireless, internet, phone and cable service was finally restored for many by late Friday night, but plenty of questions remain about a service outage that affected millions of Canadians.
Restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, government services and even police stations had to resort to alternate means of taking payment and providing service after Rogers internet service suddenly went down early Friday morning. The Rogers outage affected millions of customers and non-customers alike as Interac services were also affected.
Rogers has indicated that customers will be credited for lost services, but many who lost work or business because of the outage are asking serious questions about how something like that can happen with very little in the way of information or updates provided.
The outage is leading to calls for greater competition while others are questioning whether the internet and wireless services should be regulated like public utilities.
