Newfoundland Power and NL Hydro have announced 19 new charging sites for electric vehicles across the province.
The announcement was made at Paradise Town Hall through takeCHARGE, an initiative by both companies to expand electric vehicle use.
Sites will feature two different chargers, a fast charger that can provide 100 km of range in 20 minutes for $15 per hour, and a level two charger that provides 30 km in an hour for $1.50 per hour.
The chargers will be placed all over the province including the west coast, northern peninsula, central, burin peninsula, and rural Avalon, as well as Labrador.
NL Hydro President and CEO Jennifer Williams says the expansion will help remove barriers to buying an electric car.
She says most charging is done at home, but most people looking for longer trips need fast chargers around the province so they can safely and quickly navigate the province.
