St. John’s is going to be installing pay stations on Harbour Drive, and throughout the downtown core, in areas that are currently serviced by PayByPhone and Timed Parking.
The pay stations are the same model as those that are already in use on Duckworth Street.
The stations have multiple options including credit card, debit (via the tap function) and mobile payment. They do not accept cash because of heavy vandalism on parking metres in the past.
Councillor Debbie Hanlon says they have acquired over 90 new stations, and installation will begin with Harbour Drive.
Byron Murphy, chair of the Downtown St. John’s Business Commission, says the additional stations will improve access to all businesses in the area for customers and employees.
There are several timed parking areas where parking is limited to 15 minutes, two-hour or four-hour time limit with no payment required.
